Farm, North Dorms, Ski Slide
You are now standing in the Buntrock parking lot, but this space used to look a lot different. In the early days, there was a full-fledged farm here. The school even had its own cows. In the 1950s and 60s, the student population grew, so the farm was removed and Thorson, Kildahl, Ellingson, Mohn, and Rand residence halls were built to meet this need. Behind Thorson Hall is a steep hill, and at the top there used to be what was called a ski slide, or a ski jump, for St. Olaf’s ski teams.

On the way…
This building with the interesting windows is the Center for Art and Dance. It houses, as you might imagine, the Art and Dance departments. It used to be the school’s student center for many years until Buntrock was built. It even had a bowling alley in the basement.
