My Story

I found this picture of St. Olaf Norwegian Professor Peder Eikeland among old photographs that my father saved. The reverse side of the picture is also included, although it’s difficult to read. Professor Eikeland was the uncle of my father, Joseph Loe, who graduated from St. Olaf in 1925. According to the history of the St. Olaf Norwegian Department, “During the year 1899-1900, President Kildahl taught Norwegian, but in the fall of the latter year he brought to Manitou Heights as head of the newly organized college department which later was named the Department of Norwegian Language and Literature, a young theological student who was remarkably well-equipped as a linguist and had in addition an unabating love for the literature of his native land. The first two decades of the 20th century are the great teaching years of Peter J. Eikeland.”

Also attached, just for the sake of interest, is a photo of my dad as a St. Olaf gymnast and a picture from his junior yearbook.
